China adoption travel: Red thread memories
To record our China adoption travel we took along a JVC analog camcorder and a 35 mm camera. We took also an autosensing adaptor so that we could charge the batteries of our camcorder. We especially liked viewing the video in the hotel room with our daughter. Everything worked very well.
We took 400 speed film for still pictures. To avoid having the film X-rayed at the security checkpoints, we asked the officials to hand search our camera bags. However, we feared accidental X-ray exposure to the film on the way home. So we developed most of our rolls of film in China at the photo shop next to our hotel. The price was very reasonable.
Others brought digital cameras to record their adoption travel to China. We were not so technologically advanced at the time. We are now in the 21st century.
Now my favorite camera for recording my little ladybug is the Sony Cyber-Shot. While it is not a digital camcorder, I can take small video clips and still pictures with it. Then I just pop the memory stick in my computer, save the images and email all over the world to family and friends.
My next camera purchase, however, will be a digital camcorder. The video clips I take with my digital camera are not as clear as I would like. There is no way to stabilize them. Shaky video clips are not the best way to preserve the memories of our red thread tapestries.
Like others, we brought home many pictures and videos to record our China adoption travel. We love looking at them and recalling the emotions behind each one. Our daughter enjoys them because she can catch a glimpse of the moment our lives together began along our red thread journey to our forever family.
