China child adoption vaccinations
China child adoption vaccinations are for both you and your child.
There are three categories of vaccinations to consider during your Chinese child adoption. They are as follows:
•
China travel vaccinations
• US child vaccinations
•
China child vaccinations
China travel vaccinations
China travel vaccinations are intended to protect you during your China adoption travel. While there are no required China travel vaccinations, the CDC has published a list of recommended vaccinations on their website.
We received all the recommended China child adoption vaccinations before traveling to China just to be on the safe side.
US child vaccinations
US child vaccinations are given to your child after you return home from your China adoption travel.
Currently there is much debate about the safety of child vaccinations. Parents’ primary concern is the
possible link between autism and vaccinations.
We suggest careful research and asking lots of questions of your primary health care providers before deciding for or against child vaccinations.
China child vaccinations
China child vaccinations are given to your child while he or she is still in China. The number of vaccinations your child received may be debatable.
We were given a vaccination record when during our China child adoption. However, dates are recorded differently in China. So, it appeared that some of the child vaccinations our daughter received were given in the future.
We took the advice of our pediatrician, who has many internationally adopted children in her practice. We started from scratch and began our daughter’s vaccination schedule over once we got home with her.
The Bovine Calmette-Guerrin (BCG) vaccine is one China child vaccination that must not be overlooked. It is given to many children in certain Asian countries.
The BCG vaccine is given in an attempt to decrease tuberculosis infection in these countries. Its efficacy is questionable at best. It may even be impossible to prove your child did or did not receive the BCG vaccine.
However, if your child was given the BCG vaccine, there are future implications that should be dealt with before your child gets any older. We faced these implications ourselves when we brought our son home from Cambodia.
China child adoption vaccinations affect all the family members. Carefully consider all the options before making your final decision regarding your China travel vaccinations as well as your child’s vaccinations.
