Chinese child adoption: Requirements for US military adoption of Chinese children
A Chinese child adoption is a viable option for military families in addition to nonmilitary families. In the case of military adoption the rate limiting step in the process is most likely how comfortable the chosen China international adoption agency is when assisting the military family.
Many of the
resources
available are aimed at helping with US domestic military adoption. However, the Department of Defense does recommend resources that give valuable information about international military adoptions, including those from China. When any family, military or not, plans to adopt, that family must follow the laws set forth by their state of residence and the federal government. Chinese adoptions approved by the Chinese government according to their laws and after the US requirements are met. The paperwork completed on the US side of adoption is often more difficult because military families by nature relocate more often than nonmilitary citizens. This should not be a handicap for Chinese child adoption, or any military adoption for that matter. The key is finding the international adoption agency that is not timid about helping military families track down and process the required paperwork. When
choosing a China adoption agency
, one question should guide military families. Will that agency assist with a Chinese child adoption completed by military families? If not, keep looking. To save time, I would ask this question first.
Similar concerns arise for US citizens with military contracts. If the China adoption agency is not respectful and careful with sensitive information, the Chinese child adoption can be more difficult. In other words, the agency must be professional and considerate of its clients’ work. Completing paperwork according to the laws of both the US and China does not mean divulging anything unnecessary.
Our China adoption agency
was well versed in assisting with Chinese adoption for military families as well as families with military contracts. The fact that they are located close to DC probably puts them in a prime position to gain experience with these families and to work with governmental agencies. Dossiers are unavoidably detailed and jammed with personal information. However, our agency guided us in all aspects of our Chinese child adoption. Not once did we feel uncomfortable telling them information necessary to adopt our daughter. The comfort level and trust must be high in order to work with any international adoption agency regardless if your family is military or not. Choosing a China adoption agency that is not intimidated by helping with the paperwork for families with military connections can ensure a successful Chinese child adoption. Return
